Albeit I never slew an albatross

Recently, a lingering slew of thoughts have entered my stream of consciousness demanding attention.

1. CrazyLaughin: I got an e-mail forward from my mom that said: laugh in front of a mirror for 5 mins everyday for all kinds of beneficial effects. I tried but looked so foolish that I had to stop myself: Made me think that maybe I need to be more 'crazy' (read - not so self-censoring)

2. Strategizology: I recently saw 'Yes Men' and got another forward from my mom about using mantras to re-program (orient) yourself towards a particular end. Eg: In the morning, repeat to yourself: I will serve others today; I will care for others today; I will be kind today.
So I started saying YES and repeating that saying. Already I have signed on to serve at a homeless shelter, give a free hand massage and treat a veritable stranger's back problem.

Is there something to this? Do we really actively need to orient ourselves through de-censoring exercises and strategy mantra repetitions?
